After Global Warming - A Prediction for bio-fuels
By James | May 3, 2007
I’ve been gardening a lot lately, and through learning about soil, sunshine, and miracle grow, I’ve decided that bio-fuels may not be so great. The production of such fuels removes energy that would otherwise be returned to the soil (that whole “circle of life” thing). So based on that and some arbitrary, uneducated time estimates, I make these predictions:
Twenty years from now: Thanks to bio-fuels, ethanol, and other alternative energy sources the world finally manages to cut carbon emissions. We see the first-ever decline in atmospheric CO2. The world rejoices.
Thirty years from now: Deaths from malnutrition in children, the elderly, and the poor begin to spike. Illnesses like the flu, the common cold, and others become more prevalent and difficult to cure, worldwide. The price of food increases rapidly. We realize that by using bio-fuels, we have depleted the nutrients in our soil; food is harder to grow and contains fewer vital nutrients.
Thoughts?
