Is what you know about intelligence wrong?
By James | May 25, 2007
I love the way the speaker, Jeff Hawkins, dismisses the “pit of metaphysical dualism” in this session at TED.
His general point about the proper definition of intelligence, reminds me that Google uses the approach of using “memory to make predictions” in it’s award winning translator. Interestingly, what is absent in this approach, and in Jeff’s assertion, is understanding.

I also absolutely loved his quick dismissal of the “pit of metaphysical dualism”. Personally, I’ve spent one too many arguments with otherwise intelligent friends on the subject.
About your comment… isn’t understanding one of those uniquely-human concepts? When Jeff says “truly intelligent machines”, I get the feeling that he means “machines that can see and identify things in the same way humans can”, not “machines that mimic humans in every way”.
