The SCARF Model is a model of common factors that activate a reward response in the brain when perceived to be present, and a threat response when perceived to be absent. The factors of SCARF are Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, and Fairness.
Status is the feeling of being respected and valued.
Certainty is the predictability of outcomes and events.
Autonomy is the ability ability to make independent decisions.
Relatedness is the feeling of belonging in a group.
Fairness is the impartiality and lack of favoritism or bias in decision making.
